This 7,042' high butte, visible to motorists on nearby I-25 for some distance, anchors the N end of a small, separate segment of Santa Fe National Forest. Its summit once boasted a radio beacon (removed in 1964).

This distinctly shaped butte, a noted SFT landmark, looms above Bernal Springs, a SFT campsite and stage stop. SFT ruts NE of hamlet of Bernal.
