The overlook offers a superlative panorama of the lower end of Railroad Canyon, past Bartlett Mesa, to the W end of the Raton Mesa Group of mesas and volcanic peaks (including 8720' high Sierra Grande, and 7761' high Eagle Tail Peak) to 7,533' high Red River Peak. The city of Raton sprawls out below. The photograph shows the view from the Goat Hill Overlook looking over the city of Raton (below).

Panorama encompasses a 10 mi. portion of the Mountain Route of the Santa Fe Trail from its descent from 7,834' high Raton Pass through Raton swinging SW past 7,533' high Red River Peak, a SFT landmark. Panorama includes a glimpse of 6,930' high Wagon Mound, a SFT landmark on the Cimarron Route, more than 60 mi. S.
