Clayton Art Festival
Clayton, New Mexico
The Clayton Art Festival was first held in 1973 and has been held as an annual event since then. The festival draws artists from a five-state area including New Mexico, Colorado, Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas and is held in the two-story American Legion Hall (origianlly Otto & Johnson's Mercantile -- Feed & Hay) on Broadway & North Front Street. The fine art is displayed on the second floor and the first floor is filled with over 40 booths of wonderful jewelry, pottery and other hand-crafted items.
The festival committee hang the entries on the first weekend of October and invited art patrons can view and purchase beginning on Monday. Purchase awards are given on Wednesday with a reception for patrons and artists that evening. The hall is then open to the public until the following Sunday.
This festival has a reputation of providing northeast New Mexico with some of the finest art in the region.
