Gallinas Canyon Campground Complex

Two public campgrounds, 7,500'-7,600' in elevation. Closer, EV Long has 21 RV campsites (fee); Farther, El Porvenir, has 19 RV campsites (fee). Baker Flat, Big Pine, and Oak Flat, picnicking only. All open May-Oct. 31 only.
El Porvenir has trailhead to summit of 10,263' high Hermit Peak (5 mi. N), a noted promontory visible from the Scenic Byway for several miles. SFT traveler Giovanni Maria Augustini, an Italian holy man, lived in a cave near its summit from 1863-1866.
