Four public campgrounds, 7,400'-8,300' in elevation. Closest, Field Tract, has 16 RV campsites (fee); farther, Holy Ghost (fee) and Iron Gate (free) have 25 and 15 RV campsites; farthest, Jack's Creek, has 75 campsites (fee). Cowles, Dalton and Windy Bridge, picnicking only. All open May-Oct. 31 only. Concessionaire, Holy Ghost. Drinking water at Field Tract, Jack's Creek, Holy Ghost only.
Provides extensive public recreation a few mi. N of Scenic Byway. Five trailheads for hiking. South gateway to Pecos Wilderness. The Pecos wilderness provides opportunities for hiking, horseback riding, Trout fishing.
